Joy Sarkar and Lopamudra Mitra witnessed history at Roland Garros. The couple, who has been touring Europe, watched
Rafael Nadal winning the French Open Men’s Final match at the court on June 9.
“Last year, I saw Rafa playing in Wimbledon. But this was watching the king of the clay playing at Roland Garros. It was an out-of-the-world feeling,” said Joy.
The sports enthusiast that he is, Joy has earlier watched several important international matches, including the football World Cup last year.
“This was the first time Lopa (Lopamudra Mitra) had gone to watch tennis. I briefed her about what to expect and she enjoyed it thoroughly. We watched the prize distribution and so on. Anupama, my friend Mrinmoy’s wife, also joined us from Kuwait. Anupama is a die-hard fan of Rafa,” he said.
Joy and Lopamudra spent almost 10 days in Spain, and on June 7, they reached Paris. “We have done the sightseeing, et al, but watching the French Open Final was part of our itinerary. We booked tickets and did the needful,” Joy told us.
The couple will be leaving Paris on June 12. “On Tuesday, we are meeting Srijato at Montmartre. We will be here for a couple of days. We will be back in Kolkata by June 13. On Monday, we have planned to watch a four-hour-long opera, La Forza Del Destino, at Opera Bastille,” Joy revealed.
