A host of city artists recently got together to celebrate the timeless appeal of Rabindranath Tagore’s creations. It was a one-of-a-kind musical soiree titled Iti Ranjan showcasing the relevance of Tagore in today’s world.
How does Tagore’s unconventional definition of love and romanticism present in the current day context? Have the struggles, fights and emancipation of Ela, Nandini, and Labanya changed, or have they simply taken new forms? In a world ravaged by war, ailments and social divisiveness, how does Tagore’s philosophy help alleviate suffering and seek solace through acceptance of the truth?
Iti Ranjan showcased beautiful snippets of Tagoriana through songs, reading, instrumental sarod renditions, and enactment.
The tribute event, by two artists Dr. Mousumi Banerjee and Shoumo Banerjee from two different walks of life, saw these artists being united by their passion for Tagore, on the occasion of Baishey Srabon.
While Dr. Mousumi Banerjee was in vocals, Shoumo Banerjee mesmerized the audience in sarod with a joint poetry reading and narration. Guitar and arrangement by Arghyakamal Chattopadhyay, keyboard by Debasish Saha, and tabla by Goutam Chowdhury made the musical evening a memorable one. The concept of the musical soiree was by Dr. Mousumi Banerjee and Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty directed the entire event. Many eminent guests including actor
Debolina Dutta and Rj Agni, graced the program.
