Iconic Doordarshan theme and Sare Jahan Se Accha recreated to pay tribute to Pt Ravi Shankar

Young musicians came forward to pay tribute to Pt Ravi Shankar on his birth centenary this year.

, along with Durnibar,

Arfin Rana

and Sumit Mishra, recreated Sare Jahan Se Accha. With the arrangement, they have also incorporated the iconic theme tune of Doordarshan that was composed by Pt Ravi Shankar and played by Ali Ahmed Hussain Khan on shehnai. Interestingly, Piu and her friends roped in his son,

Hassan Haider Khan

to play shehnai for the tune in their recreation.

“Pt Ravi Shankar literally took our music to a global platform and this is our effort to pay tribute to him. We have done a music video and that is created by

, daughter of Acharya Jayanta Bose,” said Piu.

The musical piece also involves several other musicians, including

Ratul Shankar

in percussion and Arnab Bhattacharya in Sarod.

Pradyut Chatterjee

has done the sound design. “Ratulda played a lot of interesting instruments. The entire piece is our recreation and interpretation. I hope it will be liked,” Piu signed off.
