Gautam, who assisted Hemanta on a few projects, said that he once had a word with his father-in-law about the Mahalaya program — Debing Durgatiharinim — that he composed music for. “Hemantababu and I had discussions about it. He treated it like an assignment that came his way. I remember him saying that Mahisasuramardini was a landmark creation by Pankajda. According to him, Hemanta had ‘uninterrupted’ and ‘undisputed’ respect for Pankaj Mullick. “Time and again he mentioned how he had learned so much from Pankajda. I am 100% sure, he never had any ego or acrimony against Pankajbabu. If there was any tiff at all, he would have expressed it to someone at some point. Such things cannot be hidden all life,” added Gautam.
