City based music enthusiast Santanu Roy had long had a penchant for writing poetry. From early '90s, when he worked as an editor for a poetry journal, he discovered his passion for writing. His passion bore fruits when he managed to get Gabu (Gaurab Chatterjee) aboard, and together they decided to compose songs out of his poem.Dupurer Neel is the result of this association, comprising eight songs and one poetry.
The songs pan the genres of rock, blues and reggae, while the poetry has been rendered in jazz poetry format by Santanu himself.
"I had known Gautamda (Chattopadhyay), since my days as an editor of poetry journal. I got in touch with Gabu through my friend sound designer Subhadeep Sengupta and once he agreed to help me with my project, it was on in full swing. He brought along Ratul (Ritaprabha Ray) and Panku (Sanket Bhattacharya) too. Also, Bulada (Pradip Chatterjee) participated as a guest artiste in the album," said Santanu.
The album features Samantak Sinha and Sayan Mitra on vocals. One of the numbers also features Gabu. "I am very happy that my scribblings of the early '90s have now found their place on an album that features musicians such as Gabu and Ratul..
