Fusion band creates spellbinding soundscapes at a Kolkata event

Sarodist Indrayuddh Majumder conceived the idea of creating a musical synergy of Indian classical, semi-classical, popular, Bollywood, Indian folk, Western folk, Western pop and metal with the help of a few prominent young faces of music in India.

"I had always wanted to co-create a holistic acoustic musical experience, along with a handful of my fellow colleagues, who are incredible in their own domains, which are different from that of mine.Finally, I could start to execute my dream with the constant support and equal participation in the creation process from these five extremely talented and widely established colleagues of mine across genres. With the love received from the audience for our first show, we have already been receiving inquiries for shows in the city and across India in the near future. We are extremely happy with the response and looking forward to play across the nation and also wound the world. We are also planning to produce and release our originals on cross platforms in the near future," he said.

He created the occasion for an interesting mix of musicians coming together for an acoustic band named, Indriya, featuring himself on sarod, along with Mumbai-based rock and metal drummer Sambit Chatterjee, Indian classical tabla player Debjit Patitundi, mandolinist and Middle Eastern strokes instrumentalist Subham Kanjilal, classical and multi-genre vocalist Sangborti Das and Keyboardist Chakraborty Samrat.
He presented the first show of this extremely unique band at a city club recently. It showcased nine different original pieces of a musical extravaganza in the acoustic ambience, featuring a wide variety of tones and temperaments of the Indian and world music soundscapes. The show, which went over two and a half hours, left the full-house audience spellbound.
