There was a time when he would sell fish in the morning and drive an auto rickshaw from evening till night. It would give him just about enough money to run his home. “Music was my companion during my struggling days. Songs of Nachiketa, Kabir Suman and Gautam Chattopadhyay inspired my soul. Gradually I was drawn into the realm of Bangla band and started attending concerts frequently dropping my daily jobs. Consequently, I fell back on my earning. Yet, it was music that gave me self-fulfilment. Accordingly, I started penning down my thoughts as lyrics,” said Bumpai. His journey as a lyricist began in 2005 and he came up with songs like Pura muner aagun, Choritrohin, Amar bon, Maaska maaro, I love you, Ayontika and many more. “I also sang those songs and released them on YouTube. Eventually, Rupankar Bagchi sung three songs of my compositions. I have recently sung a song in collaboration with Rupam Islam for a Bangla film directed by Souvik, which will release soon,” he said. Bumpai, who has a few film offers in his kitty, is looking forward to the release of Pura muner gaan on May 30.
