EPR to launch his first solo album

After taking the nation by storm with his protest

rap

on farmer suicide and others,

Santharam Srinivasan Iyer

, aka EPR, is gearing up for his first-ever solo album, Protest Poetry. The album is slated to release in April and will feature his

collection

of raps, most of which are political.

The rapper, who always focussed on the lyrics, told us, “For me, lyrics are a very important part of my music. I started penning songs since 2002. I drew inspiration from

Gabriel Garcia Marquez

and

Pablo Neruda

. War poets like Wilfred Owen too have a deep impact on me. For me, it is important to talk about our socio-political issues that are plaguing us and I use my music as a tool.”

Besides the album, the musician is also busy composing. EPR is touring India along with his band

Underground Authority

. “From the northeast to north India, we are playing everywhere. I think these tours will keep me occupied till the end of March and then I’ll have my album launch,” he said.
