RD Burman’s nickname Pancham means five in his mother tongue Bengali and there are some interesting stories behind this famous nickname. On his 80th birthday today here’s are some interesting stories behind his nickname.

Many in the industry believe as a child when the music director used to cry, its scale sounded just like the fifth note (Pa). While another story suggests he used cry in five different notes.
