Desi rock band SPUNK! is all set to release their debut Bollywood cover EP soon. The band, that gained prominence after winning the Channel [V] Launch Pad in 2012 steadily gained immense popularity throughout the country.
Although the band works on original music, the band’s USP in live shows has been their rendition of old classic Bollywood covers.
Starting from compositions by Laxmikant Pyarelal to RD Burman or from enigmatic melodies of AR Rahman to peppy Pritam Chakraborty, SPUNK! has been spot on when it comes to remixing and revamping the classics. Transforming Bollywood pop songs from the 1960’s into a complete modern rock rendition has been SPUNK!’s forte.
The band, that was shortlisted for the global band competition Hard Rock Rising, 2012 is also planning to come up with an original album, come October 2014. The 4 track cover EP consists of their most popular renditions of Bollywood classics. The EP will be available for free download on the band’s pages on music streaming websites.
The four tracks comprising the EP are Oh Haseena Zulfon Waali (Teesri Manzil, 1966 – RD Burman), Om Shanti Om (Karz, 1980 – Laxikant Pyarelal), Mere Bina (Crook,2010 – Pritam Chakraborty) and Urvashi (Humse Hain Muqabla,1992 – AR Rahman)
