This lockdown has given many of us to nurture our hidden talents and also get more creative as we have been spending long hours at hoe every day. So, Deb Chowdhury, the lead singer of city-based folk band Sahajiya, came up with a quarantine music project, Folk Connect, and has started releasing songs online. Sharing with us more details about the new project, the singer said, “This unique music project involves three more other artistes from the city, apart from me, who all work in different genres of music.
Rudraneel, who is a part of the project, we started discussing about it in the month of January at the rooftop concert of singer Upal Sengupta from Chandrabindoo. The concept of ‘Folk Connect’ emerged out in a rehearsal session for a collaborative performance in another roof concert, Chilekotha, at Chinsurah immediately after that.” The other members of the project are guitarist Rudra Sarkar and percussionist Kingshuk.
Prem Rashika Hobo Kemone, a popular song of Lalan Sai is presented as the first song from this project and has been released on the online channel of Upal. “This song is very rhythmic and groovy. We designed this song with the influence of Blue-Grass, a popular genre of American folk music. The approach of this song can easily connect with the music lovers irrespective of any language or geographical arena,” added Deb. Rudraneel is also happy to be a part of Folk Connect. He said, “'I always wanted to work in folk music genre. And I was in search of a person who is not only proficient in folk music but is also very passionate about it. Deb is such a person who has that amazing synergy, and I had a lovely time collaborating on this project.”
