City musicians pay tribute to Pink Floyd amid loud cheer

There's hardly a contemporary band in India that's not influenced by one of the first British psychedelic groups - the immensely popular Pink Floyd. And when an ensemble of musicians in Kolkata decide to pay tribute to their childhood heroes, a full house is guaranteed. Recently, musicians Bodhi Ghosh, Mainak Nag Chowdhury (Bumpy) and Gaurab Chattopadhyay (Gabu), along with their other friends, performed a gig dedicated to Pink Floyd to a packed house in the city.

"Pink Floyd is my most favourite band and I had been listening to their music since I was a kid. My mother was also an ardent listener of their work and I was influenced too. In fact, I started strumming the guitar because of David Gilmour. The moment I heard Comfortably Numb I knew I would study a little less and concentrate on my music more. So, I thought it was high time that I paid tribute to the group because of which it all began for me," said Bodhi.
His dear friend and fellow musician, Gabu, also had a similar sentiment to share. "My earliest childhood memory of listening to music is that of Pink Floyd's. My father was a huge fan too. I remember, as a kid, I would imagine visuals with the different sound effects of theirs," he said.

The pandemic has played a role in bringing the busy musicians together for this grand show. "We had a good time putting the show together. Also, most of my shows got cancelled and none of us were touring as much as we usually do. So, there was a lot of time in hand to curate the gig," said Bodhi.
Gabu thinks their hard work paid as the audience received them well. "For this particular concert, all of us worked really hard on the material. Hats off to Bodhi for making this happen. The line up he chose really worked. All of us sang. I am looking forward to future shows with this line up. It was great to see the audience react the way they did," Gabu said.
