Amyt Datta & Friends to bring back retro rock, jazz

Amyt Datta

, along with his fellow musicians, will host a gig of classic rock and jazz music. The guitarist has roped in his new and old friends, including Parvez Quadir, Jefferey Rikh, Akash Ganguly, Samrat Mukherjee, Debopratim Bakshi, Ritoban Das and Rupsa Sen. The concert will take place on January 25.

“These are my musician friends. Some old friends are from Shiva, some play with me in Ziba and so on. We Jam together anyway,” said Amyt. Elaborating on the music that the band, Amyt Datta & Friends, will be playing , he said, “This is going to be a retro music evening. We will perform covers of

Mark Knopfler

, Santana, Miles Davis,

Joe Zawinul

, The Police, Joe Cocker and many others. It is a kind of a music that I am playing after almost two decades and enjoying every bit of it.”

Unlike live music in pubs — the current trend in the city — this gig will take place in an auditorium. “There was a time when the audience in Kolkata used to sit and enjoy music. That culture has faded over the years. Now people often chat of a pint of beer and the music runs on the background. This show is different. Here, people will have to sit and enjoy the music,” Amyt signed off.
