Madhabi Mukherjee, our very own Ray's Charulata, turned 80 recently. It's a day to remember by the movie buffs especially for her unfathomable contribution in the field of Bengali cinema. Be it
Ritwik Ghatak,
Satyajit Ray, or Tapan Sinha; Madhabi essayed so many memorable characters that remain timeless.
Sristi Dance Academy celebrated the special occasion last week in a very homely ambiance in presence of the living legend herself besides Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee, Satinath Mukhopadhyay, Maitreyee Mitra and Indrani Ganguly of Sristi Dance Academy at Abanindranath Gallery (ICCR, Kolkata).
Indrani conceived the entire evening from the dance performance by her students on a few of Madhabi acted film songs like Aaro Dure Chalo Jai, Chanchal Mon Anmona Hoy, O Pakhi Ure Aay, Aaj Mon Cheyechhe Ami Hariye Jabo and so on.
After the cake-cutting ceremony, Madhabi Mukherjee recalled those bygone days. She said, " I still remember my mother used to celebrate the day when I was a little girl. She prepared sweets for me so many times. Now my daughter celebrates the day. Indrani is also like my daughter. I am touched by the way she has arranged the whole thing."
An excited Indrani Ganguly said," I am speechless, thankful to God for blessing me with such a precious moment.” On the other hand, GIMA awardee percussionist Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee said," We all are happy and honored to be present here. I wish Madhabi di a healthy life ahead." After the felicitation, many of his admirers sang songs from her films.
