Since October last year, it was a roller coaster ride for South actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. She had to face immense scrutiny on social media, ever since she and actor Naga Chaitanya announced their separation in 2021. While there has been criticism, trolling and personal attacks, Samantha also received support from many including celebs from the film fraternity. Actress Paayel Sarkar feels this never-ending gossip and speculation about Samantha’s personal life has once again exposed this country’s revulsion to unsuccessful marriages. “It’s not only about Samantha, but this pathetic image that we often create to blame separated single women painting them as “bad” influences has been a curse for ages. In fact, whenever a woman succeeds on her own some people can’t digest it, because our society still thinks that women can’t be complete until they marry and bear children. That’s how our society has turned a separated successful woman a bad role model for the girls. Her reputation is often thrashed so that she realizes that her decision to leave behind a seemingly good marriage won’t be appreciated by society,” explains the actress.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Paayel has two films in her kitty - Pijush Saha’s upcoming thriller ‘Jaalbandi’ costarring debutant Prince, Darshana Banik, June Maliah, and Kharaj Mukherjee and Barshali Chatterjee’s love story ‘Kulpi’, a romantic tale between a dwarf and an uptown girl.
