The much-awaited film, shot in Benaras, Gorubathan, Taki, Bolpur and Kolkata, is now an official selection at this year’s

Kolkata International Film Festival

in the national competition on Indian Languages section.

The plot of this film takes off from where The Apu Trilogy had ended with ‘Apur Sansar’ (The World of Apu). ‘Avijatrik’ focuses on the wanderlust of the main protagonist and the story of a sublime bond between a father and a son. The story is of Apu and his six-year-old son Kajol. It will have new characters, including Lila, who was not part of the trilogy but was a major character in the novel. Another addition would be the introduction of Apu’s adventurer friend who was also part of the book and who will be an integral part of Apu and Kajol’s life.

Seasoned actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty will portray the role of Apu’s globetrotter friend. The cast of ‘Avijatrik’ has already made everyone buzzing about the film. Arpita Chatterjee will be seen as Leela, Sreelekha Mitra plays Ranu di, Ditipriya Roy as Aparna and Sohag Sen playing Ranu’s elder sister, among others essaying key roles.

The film has been presented by Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and bankrolled by Gaurang Films.
