Shankha Ghosh’s poem adapted as Bengali film song
Young musicians Sayantan Sinha and Souptik Mazurder have scored a romantic number for Pavel’s next film using Shankha Ghosh’s poem, Arale. According to Pavel, this could well be a first in Bengali cinema when a poem has been use as a song.
Souptik, who worked as an assistant to the late Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee, told us that around three years back, he and Sayantan had composed the music for two of Ghosh’s poems, Arale and Mukh Dheke Jay Bigyapone, as an experiment. Much later, during an adda session, they sang the compositions to Pavel, who liked them instantly. “We had also met Sankha Ghosh last year and played the songs. He liked the compositions, but suggested some changes to make them more meaningful. He also allowed us to use them in films,” Souptik said, adding that they had played the song to Pavel after that and that’s when he showed interest in it.
