Gifts apart, Yashh Dasgupta took home some crazy fan moments When we set sail for two city markets with Yashh Dasgupta to shop for Puja, we were really not prepared for his fans. And trust us, there were hundreds -all eager to talk to Aranya Singha Roy and get selfies clicked with the most popular star of Bengali television! The actor, who is the exact opposite of the stoic and sombre Aranya, obliged everyone with a smile and even cracked a joke or two.

“My cousin Rani, who stays in New York,is coming to Kolkata during Puja after years. She has ordered that I should buy two salwar-kameez pieces for her from Satyam International at Vardaan (starting from `820) before she even lands in town. I have to oblige her,” the actor said, while sorting through the available options.
Yashh is very close to his mother and the first name on his Puja gifts list is ma. “Ma has loads of saris, most of which are still new. So, this year I am gifting her a ring from Bobby Jewellers (Rs 1,500) at Vardaan Market and not a sari,” said the actor, while talking to his mother over phone.

“Baba loves to stack up his new kurtas and wear an old one despite ma’s shouting. This Puja, he better wear the kurta (Rs 1,200) I bought from Aashiana Boutique at Vardaan,” he said.
“Bandhgala jackets are a rage this Puja, as reported in Calcutta Times. So, I had to buy a waistcoat (Rs 1,500) from Astha Creation at Vardaan,” smiled the actor, while trying on one jacket after another from the several options available at the store.

"Every time I go to a market, I try to find interesting artefacts," said the actor, for whom Navratri is an equally important event. “I try to buy gold or silver every year during Navratri, as ma says it brings good luck. I’ve shifted to a new house and ma wants a Durga murti at home. I love interior design and every corner of my house has been done up with a lot of effort. So, I bought this silver and gold-plated idol (Rs 4,000) from Abhush at Vardaan. Isn’t it nice?” Yashh asked.

The actor is also playing host this Puja. “My friends are coming over from Mumbai and all of them want gifts. For the girls, I am buying these pearl strings from Kanika at Vardaan (Rs 300). I’m yet to decide what to buy for the boys,” Yashh said.
“My Bojhena Shey Bojhena team is also on my gifts list. These shirts (Rs 450 each) from Unique Collection at Vardaan are for all my team members,” the actor said.

Yashh also has a shoe fetish. “I have shoes in red, yellow, green, pink, blue, orange — the list is endless. This dragon-print shoes from Arshi Footwear (Rs 1,295) at Metro Plaza are to die for!” said the actor with a smile, while trying on the pair.
“I have a watch fetish, and that too, the ones with big dials. My mother jokes that I should buy a separate almirah for my collection! I invariably spend a fortune on them," said Yashh, who has at least 50 large-dial watches, if not more. “But every time I come to Waqt at Vardaan, I end up spending a fortune,” he said, while trying on a red showpiece (Rs 900). “I was just wondering if I could wear it,” the actor winked.

Yashh, who has a very serious image, thanks to the character he plays on screen, is a complete opposite in real life. he is fun-loving, charming and very very jovial. “I used to stay in Mumbai and this will be my first Durga Puja in Kolkata, and though I buy stuff throughout the year, shopping for family and friends ahead of Puja has its own charm. I just wait for my parents' smiles when I hand over their Puja gifts," he said, while sifting through bright tees in anticipation of a very colourful 'first Puja'.

Having phuchka outside Vardaan Market is a must for the small-screen heartthrob and he had his share on this visit too. Three hours passed in a blur amidst shopping and fan frenzy, but the actor was still nowhere close to his target. “I have to buy Puja gifts for 80 people and I'm not even halfway through. There is joy in giving," said Yashh between mouthfuls of phuchkas, which he never misses when at a city market. “I love phuchkas (Rs 10 for 5 pieces) with mitha jol and loads of chillies! Kolkata phuchka is tastier than the ones you get in Mumbai,” smiled Yashh while popping in one crunchy delight after another.
