Actress Yaaneea Bharadwaj has been roped in for
Aneek
Chaudhuri’s Malayalam film, Katti Nrittam. The film is on the floors and this is the first attempt in Malayalam language by a Bengali filmmaker. The film is being shot in Kolkata and
Kerala. The other actors in this film are NSD trained actor Rukmini Sircar and theatre actor Sabuj Bardhhan.
Katti Nrittam, meaning the Knife Dance, is all about a
Kathakali
dancer turning into a psychopath killer. On choosing such a genre, Aneek explains, “This film lies somewhere between the genres of romance and tragedy; I think this is indeed the largest gap that one can ever think of. It is also the gap between reality and expectations. We are trying to nullify the bed of roses and then turning it into a bed of blood. Yes, it is going to be raw and violent. You can expect all kinds of violence that had not earlier been shown in an Indian film. There will be sodomy too! And, this is no experiment. We were all prepared for this since the last three years. This had to come someday. And moreover, the art director has to put in the best efforts for this film.”
In the film, Yaaneea appears to be a simple, girl next door. On selecting her, the director adds, “I find Yaaneea to be extremely deep. Acting comes naturally to her. This is indeed a gift. Besides, her look has a particular unpredictability; she was my first choice! Moreover, we respect each other’s works and we share a good equation too.”
