For the past four months,
Kamalika Banerjee has been staying alone in her apartment with best friend Bhondu, her 15-year-old pet dog. “Bhondu has always been my soulmate — now and forever. After I lost my parents, Bhondu has been the one keeping me company at home. Though she was a bit unwell in April, Bhondu is much better now with some medical help. Without her around, I couldn’t have possibly survived the lockdown alone,” said the actress who will start work for a new show in August.
Kamalika has been a part of this industry for the past 22 years.
She has played important characters in serials, films, theatres and more. But for the past few years, we haven’t seen much of her on the small screen. When asked, the actress said, “For the past five years, I have turned down all TV offers as I found the scripts quite regressive. When I used to act in serials, the stories and scripts used to be much better. However, last year, I played the titular character in the serial Umar Sansar. The story dwelled on woman empowerment. I feel the content of OTT now is much better than TV serials.”
The actress is also a part of Indranil Roychowdhury’s film, Mayar Jonjal, which features
Ritwick Chakraborty and
Paran Bandopadhyay in the lead.
