Why Haranath Chakraborty decided to make ‘Tarokar Mrityu’ with Ranjit Mallick?

Haranath Chakraborty who has previously delivered a series of superhit commercial potboilers has now stepped into a new territory with his latest murder mystery, a genre he's never touched before. Titled ‘Tarokar Mrityu’, this intriguing film is releasing today on September 29. The ensemble cast features notable actors such as Ranjit Mallick, Parno Mittrah, and Ritwick Chakraborty in the lead.

Sharing his enthusiasm about this fresh challenge, Haranath revealed, “I've always been intrigued by murder mysteries, and I'm thrilled to finally bring one to the big screen. This project holds a special place in my heart, as the initial concept was ideated by my son, Hindol Chakraborty. The storyline was then further refined and developed by Padmanabha Dasgupta."

He went on to highlight the significant role played by the film’s cinematographer, Supriyo Dutta. Both Haranath and Supriyo pushed boundaries, particularly in the areas of lighting and design, bringing a distinctive visual flair to the movie.

The plot of ‘Tarokar Mrityu’ follows a married couple, with Ritwick Chakraborty portraying a scriptwriter and Parno Mittrah stepping into the shoes of a schoolteacher. The narrative takes a thrilling turn when they visit Kalimpong and stay in a bungalow infamous for being haunted. During their visit, they encounter mysterious paranormal events, culminating in a murder. Bringing another layer of intrigue to the story is Ranjit Mallick's character, an investigating officer who delves deep into the mysterious incidents at the bungalow.

Discussing the pivotal role of the actors in a thriller, Haranath pointed out, "For this movie, casting was paramount. Ranjit Mallick was my first choice; I always imagined him in this role. He resonated with the script immediately. I opted for Parno and Ritwick as their pairing felt fresh and innovative. Parno, with her girl-next-door appearance, adds a touch of innocence which is essential for the narrative."


Adding to the star-studded cast of ‘Tarokar Mrityu’ are Anindya Pulak Bandopadhyay, Priyanka Mandal, and Soham Majumdar in important roles. With such a compelling plot and an ensemble cast, the mystery thriller is expected to captivate viewers.
