When trolls forced these celebs flee social media

Celebrities are no strangers when it comes to getting trolled. While social media has brought the stars closer to us, it has also left them vulnerable to all sorts of negative comments. Increasing negativity has often forced celebs leave social media to make space for more positive energies. Here’s a quick look at some celebs who prioritised their peace of mind and quite social media to get rid of the negativity brought about by trolls.

Karan Johar

In 2022, increasing negativity prompted Karan Johar to bid his nearly two million followers on Twitter good bye, and ‘make space for more positive energies’. The ace filmmaker, often victim of online trolling, prioritised his peace of mind and decided to get rid of the negativity. Before deleting his account, Karan’s last tweet read, “Making space for more positive energies only and this is step one towards that. Goodbye Twitter!” He has often talked about facing trolling and how difficult it is to come to terms with social media hate.

Bidita Bag

Bidita Bag, who’s also have dealt with constant negative comments on social media, decided to take a break from Twitter a few year ago and focus on her work instead. However, she reactivated her account a few months after following a social media detox. “For the time being, I am on a social media detox. I have decided that if I am not an expert on a subject, I would rather not speak on it just to look ‘woke’.Often, these trolls are ruthless and they circulate old posts and edited content to pull you down. Therefore, as much as possible I try to keep the communication one-way now,” she once said during an interview.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan quit social media a day after his birthday in 2021. Speaking the reason behind this decision later the actor said, “I live in my own world. I am anyway not active on social media, I don't post anything.” Aamir, who was largely a recluse even when he had social media profiles on different platforms, further said, "We used to communicate before this (social media) as well. Now that I've quit social media, I'll be able to talk to my audience only through the media. So you guys should be happy, I have full faith in you." However, before deleting his Twitter and Instagram account, the celebrated actor’s last post read, “Hey guys, thank you so much for all the love and warmth on my birthday. My heart is full. In other news, this is going to be my last post on social media. Considering that I am so active anyway, I have decided to drop the pretence."

Sreelekha Mitra

Earlier in February this year, actor Sreelekha Mitra decided to take a break from Facebook to avoid toxicity. The versatile actor has often been vocal about controversial issues or contemporary cultural practices. However, the sarcasm in her posts saw Sreelekha being targeted by trolls. Before leaving she posted, “Taking a sabbatical from facebook profile, page shall remain active. After a thorough cleansing both on myself and friend list hopefully shall be back. Adieu from toxicity.” The actor took the decision after her controversial post regarding the upcoming Bengali film ‘Binodiini Ekti Notir Upakhyan’ faced backlash.

Sonakshi Sinha

In 2020, Sonakshi Sinha deactivated her Twitter account to shield herself from the online hate and trolling. She deactivated her Twitter account after Sushant Singh Rajput's sudden demise. The actress took to her Instagram handle to announce the news. Her post read, "The first step to protecting your sanity is to stay away from negativity. And nowhere more of that than Twitter these days. Chalo I'm off-- deactivating my account. Bye guys, peace out. Aag lage basti mein... mein apni masti mein! Bye Twitter."

Aayush Sharma

Salman's brother-in-law Aayush Sharma too decided to quit Twitter disgusted by social media predators in 2018 to stay away from the increasing negativity. He announced it through Instagram and wrote, "280 characters are less to define a human being. But 280 characters are more than enough to spread fake news, hatred and negativity. Didn’t sign up for this nasty herd mentality. Khuda hafiz."

Hina Khan

After her father's death in 2021, Hina decided to take some time off social media platforms to stay away from negativity. She mentioned that her accounts will be handle by her team. "My beloved father Aslam Khan left for heavenly abode on April 20. I am grateful to each one of you for checking in on me and my family during these tough times. While me and my family are mourning the loss, my social media accounts will be handled by my team for upcoming work commitments. Thank you for your support and love," her Instagram post read.

In public space there will always be positive and negative comments as all can never be expected to be on same page having same taste. Even their projects and films will have those who like and dislike.. Why quit social media.. its like stopping to work because the previous flopped.
