What a pain for Bedabrato!

Bedabrato Pain, the director of Chittagong, was in Kolkata on Tuesday. Excerpts from the interview with the director: Are you dubbing Chittagong in Bengali
There is a demand for the Bengali version. But I haven���������t yet made my mind on that because it will lose its authenticity. There is also the other question of which Bengali dialect to follow.
If I���������m authentic, I���������ll have to use the Chittagong dialect. Most Bengalis will find it difficult to understand that dialect. But one of the things that I���������ve done is that the background action is in Bengalia
Any plans of adapting the subject for television
I would like to do is to make a 12-part television miniseries in Bengali. One idea is to tell the story from the viewpoint of multiple characters that the Uprising has. I have made a fast-paced 97 minute film. So, obviously I couldn���������t do as much justice as I would have wanted to all the participants and characters of the Uprising. Some of them including Indumati Singh, Suhasini Ganguly or Anurup Sen are unsung. There are some characters such as Tarakeshwar Dastidar whom we couldn���������t give that much of prominence. It would be interesting to do a miniseries and choose 115/20 characters and tell the story of the Uprising from the point of view of the Uprising from each of the episodes.

I haven���������t yet watched KHJJS. I do intend to watch it this week.
What���������s your take of Bollywood���������s adaptation of Bengali classics
There are some great stories in the past where Hindi movies have been adapted. The best example is that of Do Bigha Zameen. The recent adaptation of Parineeta has set a good example. But then, there are other films too.I would include Devdas in this category. On the one hand, one doesn���������t get the feel of Bengali in those movies at all. On the other hand, its most irritating to see the sudden use of Bengali words in an affected way like ish. Bengali names are also mispronounced there. It underscores the fact that even today, a Hindi-speaking audience cant get the name of Kolkata right. I was very sure that I didn���������t want anything like that. Chittagong has characters speaking in regular Hindi. Instead of having my characters mispronounce Gonesh as Gones, I would rather have them say it as Ganesh.
There is too much of controversy surrounding your film already. Does Chittagong benefit from it
While I am honoured by Anurag���������s support, had he asked me whether he should write such a post, I���������d have advised him not to do so. I want to leave the audience with a sense of honesty and passion. My film stands on its own. Its a touching story of a 16-yearold self-doubting boy to find his inner hero. My biggest satisfaction was my 16-year-old son, Ishaan, who I lost in this process. Despite the difficult times, I owe it to him to complete and release this movie. I left my 18-year-old job as a senior research scientist in NASA to pursue my passion in film-making. I certainly didn���������t quit that career for cheap publicity and controversy.
