Ritwick Chakraborty is a star in the kitchen. “Sobai randhle, khaabe ke?” asks the actor. “That’s

’s job. I love maachher jhol, but when it’s cooked by others!”
All this talk about fish is pertinent, since Ritwick is gearing up to hit the screens in
Pratim D Gupta
’s film,
Maacher Jhol
, as Dev D, an internationally renowned chef. Among other things, his character whips up a mean sorshe maach, bhapa illish and other fishy fare. “I had no interest in cooking in childhood. When I used live alone, I had no option but to cook for survival. Strangely, roti and maachher jhol are the two things I could never prepare as something or the other would always go wrong. I remember the hot splash of oil on my face when I would try to fry fish,” said Ritwick with a smile.
The film has been a different experience though. “I learnt so much — chopping, decorating the food, using the right spices. A chef’s job is quite artistic and tough too!” Pratim is all praise for his actor. “Ritwick is brilliant and pulls off the chef’s role with aplomb,” said the director.
