‘Tritiya Adhyay’ to ‘Bornoporichoy’: Upcoming Bengali thrillers to watch out for

Whether it romance, fantasies, thrillers or simple drama; Bengali cinema this year has plenty to offer. Movie buffs will have a lot to watch out for in 2019. It’s the ideal time you say to your savings to just wait to grow big as there are so many exciting Bengali films releasing this year. Here we present a list of upcoming Bengali thrillers which will surely grip you to the edge of your seats.

Tritiya Adhyay

This Manoj Michigan directorial is a romantic thriller releasing on February 8. The film has mostly been shot in Deoghar and the place has an important role to play in ‘Tritiya Adhyay’. The two lead characters Kaushik (Abir Chatterjee) and Shreya (Paoli Dam) are childhood lovers who once lost contact with each other. After a long gap, Kaushik, a sports teacher, meets Shreya, a renowned botanist. The narrative highlights the background of their breakup, reunion and future.

Vinci Da

It’s a gritty, edge-of-the-seat thriller which Srijit Mukherji in familiar territory that delivered hits like ‘Baishe Srabon’ and ‘Chotushkone’. ‘Vinci Da’ releases in April. The upcoming thriller revolves around a make-up artist and a serial killer. Ritwick Chakraborty and Rudranil Ghosh will play the lead roles. Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen as a police officer in the upcoming movie. While Rudranil and Anirban are common names in his movies, ‘Vinci Da’ will be his second outing with Sohini Sarkar and Ritwick after ‘Rajkahini’ and ‘Nirbaak’ respectively.

Sesh These Shuru

The super hit jodi of Jeet-Koel returns to big screen in this Raj Chakraborty directorial. Touted to be a thriller, it has already hit the floors. What we hear, Ritabhari Chakraborty is playing the second female lead. According to industry sources, ‘Sesh These Shuru’ starts when the lead pair crosses each other’s path in a flight. The thriller will mostly be shot in Kolkata while there will be a few London sequences for which the team will fly to London in February. ‘Sesh Theke Shuru’ is being produced by Jeet’s home production Jeet Filmworks.

Dev-Rukmini starrer yet untitled thriller

Directed by Raja Chanda, it’s a yet to be titled romantic thriller. Dev here plays a music lover and Rukmini Maitra will be seen as a journalist. Fans are eagerly waiting to see the hit pair with their crackling chemistry in this film which is touted to be inspired by real-life incidents. The yet untitled thriller also marks the Tollywood superstar’s much anticipated project with Surinder Films. Initially Koel Mallick was supposed to play the female lead in this Raja Chanda directorial but later Rukmini replaced the actress. This is the 4th time Rukmini will be pairing up with Dev after ‘Chaamp’, ‘Cockpit’ and ‘Kabir’.

Bornoporichoy

Starring Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta and Priyanka Sarkar in the lead, the Mainak Bhaumik directed thriller revolves around a series of crimes in the city that has to be stopped. It’s a thriller with loads of puzzles and action sequences. Jisshu will be seen in a shady role while Abir plays a clean, tidy Bengali man of honour. Mainak has already promised you would get to plenty of action for which a Bollywood stunt director Sunil Rodrigues has been hired who has been hired who has directed a lot of action stunts of Shah Rukh Khan films. He has been a key part of ‘Zero’, ‘Kedarnath’, ‘Pari’, ‘Mukkabaaz’ and many other Bollywood films.

Dev-Rukmini in a thriller on digital surveillance

Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s upcoming film is a thriller focusing on the negative impacts of digital surveillance. In this era of technological advancement and globalization we all are watched by someone. GPS locators can easily keep an eye on our whereabouts. Even when we use social media, our personal information can be accessed with a click of the mouse. While Dev and Rukmini play the lead, there will be another male lead with negative shades. Set to be produced by Dev’s home production, camera will roll on for the upcoming thriller from next month.
