Festive season and ethnic wear go hand in hand, and when it comes to Tollywood actors, sari remains their first choice for occasion wear. To be more specific, Benarasi and Kanjeevaram silk saris are the hot favourites among those aiming to get that rich festive traditional look. We asked a few Tolly beauties and self-confessed sari fans to share their most preferred attire for festivals, and all of them almost unanimously voted for the graceful and timeless Benarasi silk saris.
Here’s why...
If
Subhashree Ganguly had her way, she would be wearing a Benarasi on every special occasion. ‘I’m a fan of the intricate weaving done for these saris. My favourite Benarasi has always been the one made with pure silk (katan) in rich colours,” says the actress.
Tnusree Chakraborty is fond of silk, tissue and butidar Benarasis because of their rich and vibrant looks. “The fall of these materials is spectacular. I also like Benarasis with rich zari borders as those give a heavy, festive look,” says the actress.
Puja Banerjee thinks there doesn’t exist a better
Diwali outfit than a rich age-old traditional Benarasi in bright colours, especially red. “I am having my formal marriage this November for which I plan to wear a red Benarasi. I like georgette Benarasis too, as it makes one look toned. While I prefer cotton Benarasis in the morning, for evening outings, it has to be silk.”
For actress
Ushasi Ray, any outfit made from the Benarasi fabric – be it a salwar-kameez or a lehenga – is her favourite. She says, “The entire look gets an upgrade when one chooses to wear a Benarasi or a dress made from this
material. This Diwali I am planning to wear a Benarasi lehenga.”
