The kathamo puja will be on Ulto Rath this year, says Sudipa Chatterjee

Every year on Rath Yatra, Sudipa Chatterjee and Agnidev Chatterjee make a trip to Kumartuli for the kathamo puja. However, this year, the kathamo puja will be on Ulto Rath. “This will be 130^th year of Durga Puja at our home. As it is ambubachi today, we don’t do anything auspicious related to Durga Puja. Otherwise, on Rath Yatra, we offer bhog to Lord Jagannath and then go to Kumartuli for thakurer baina (ordering for the idol with some token money).On Radha Asthami, we do sindoor daan on the kathamo (the bamboo and straw frame of the idol) as that’s our family tradition. From Kumartuli, we go to the Ganges and perform a small puja, where we invite Ma Ganga to our place. So, the rituals of Durga Puja tart from Rath Yatra but this year it will be from Ulto Rath,” said Sudipa, who is currently busy penning a script on how two lovers got affected because of this lockdown.
