Tathagata Ghosh’s latest offering, a short film ‘Doitto’ (Demon), is a psychological thriller featuring
Shataf Figar,
Aryan Roy, Soumya Majumdar, Bimal Giri and Payel Rakshit. The story chronicles around a morally flawed homicide detective who has to interrogate a suspect before a serial killer murders his next victim.
As we see in real life, police is really a powerful force in small towns and rural areas. Investigations are often botched and helpless victims suffer the power-play of the local officers. This callousness has actually given rise to a number of cold and unsolved cases. As they say justice delayed is justice denied. And yet, despite this outcry over police arrogance, little we see has been done.
The director has somehow channeled his pent-up frustration with the system into making a short film with powerful characters.
The subject matter of ‘Doitto’ looks both interesting and provocative. Will it be able to expose the inner demons destroying our system from within? Or would we succumb to it as always? That’s what forms the crux of the story.
