Sudipta Dey’s upcoming film ‘Tar Galpo’ (Her Story) is a striking tale of a husband’s struggle while trying to save his wife and at the same time a fight against the inhuman and degrading practices we see in a decaying society. It also speaks about the sad state of film censorship in India and according to the director it’s the first film in our country that raises voice against censor board.
The presence of
Soumitra Chattopadhyay in the cast surely grabs attention while Ramen Roychowdhury,
Papiya Sen and many others will be seen in key roles in the film which has already fetched accolades in international film circuit.
‘Tar Galpo’ was born due to death. With his film just about done, director Shantanu Roy faces a turbulent time, leaving him to fight two battles. One of cancer and another, his film’s censor. In a democratic country like India, his film gets censored for a bizarre reason. Dejected, Shantanu is confused on what to do in the short span of time that he has left. Whom will he save? His own creation or the person he has spent most of his life with?
"As we follow Shantanu’s battle for life, we realize that cancer is not just a disease of the living, it is present in our thoughts, our actions and our society as well. It is capable of single-handedly destroying the democratic rights of human beings; capable of silencing a work of art. Based on a true story of recent times, this is a film that talks about love, passion and war," explained the director while speaking about the film.
The social drama’s music has been composed by Partha Sengupta while the DOP is Kamal Nayek.
‘Tar Galpo’ has traveled several prestigious international film festivals including ARFF Barcelona International Awards 2019, Austria International Film Festival 2019, ARFF Amsterdam International Awards 2019, Russian Film Festival 2019, Rome Film Awards 2019, Indie visions Film Festival Virginia 2019 and French Independent Film Festival 2019.
