As Tollywood mourns the death of veteran actor Tapas Pal,
Buddhadeb Dasgupta who had cast the actor in his three critically acclaimed films ‘Uttara’, 'Mondo Meyer Upakhyan' and ‘Janala’ says
Tapas Pal wasn’t utilised properly as an actor.
“I still remember the peculiar moment. We were in Venice to receive an award for ‘Uttara’. Suddenly Tapas started dancing in the middle of the road.
He was so happy for the award. I still remember this side of Tapas Pal. He was one of the best actors in his era. Yet, he wasn’t utilised properly,” remembers an emotional Buddhadeb Dasgupta.
“I had offered him very odd roles in my films – in ‘Uttara’ as a wrestler and in ‘Janala’ as a thief. He had pulled off both the characters brilliantly. I think most of us don’t know what we want in life. That’s exactly what happened with Tapas. He could have stunned everyone acting in more powerful roles. He had that capability but sadly, he didn’t realise all these and moved on to politics,” recalls the national award-winning director.
Tapas Pal who was also a former TMC MP passed away early on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest in Mumbai when he was returning to Kolkata.
