Photographer Tathagata Ghosh has come up with a photography series through which he wants to convey the story of two friends. Featuring Anusha Viswanathan and Soumyasri Banerjee, the photo story is titled Shoi: The Sworn.
Speaking about the project, he told us, “Set in a vintage bonedi bari of Bengal, Shoi: The Sworn is a tale of an eternal friendship between two women of that era. Through still photographs, the narrative showcases a girl whose entire life is confined to the four walls of this huge mansion. She is visited by another girl, with whom she slowly creates another world, another life – somewhat fantastical. They find a companion, a playmate, and perhaps even a soulmate within one another. She becomes the sunlight and her friend, the shadow – sworn to one another. We see their story unfold as the house remains their sole witness.”
Tathagata said that every single shot of this photo gallery tells a story. “And together, they become a complete narrative through which a story of bonding is told. Every year, I try to come up with a unique concept of photo stories, and this year it is the story of two girls and how a house plays an integral part in their friendship. Both Anusha and Soumyasri had to go through physical transformations to feature in this project as the body language plays a vital role here,” he added.
Anusha, on her part, said, “It was a beautiful experience shooting for this project as the concept itself is so innovative.”
