Many celebs, more specifically women, are regularly criticized, trolled and mocked for their fashion choices, outfits and how they conduct themselves in public appearances or on social media. Seasoned actor
Swastika Mukherjee, too, has handled this unwanted
social media
scrutiny for years. So, how does she deal with such negativity? Does it become frustrating after a certain time?
Swastika who was recently present at an event as a special guest admits that she used to think a lot and got affected in the initial days when she was relatively new to social media “Yes, the negativity used to affect me. I was literally shocked to see the way people would just unnecessarily become nasty and poke fun by hurling abuses at women without even knowing a single thing about them. Then I decided it is time to filter the bad and the good, and it will have to be me who will choose what can affect me. And I believe it largely depends on who we follow. Only we can decide what we want to see, what we will believe, and whom we should follow. It’s up to us to get influenced by others. But yes, it’s a fact that I can’t control the comments section and social media timelines. For us who are always in public domain, it soon becomes a risk. But now I simply avoid checking my comments. I just don’t scroll and see what they are saying,” explained Swastika who was attending a panel discussion on bodily autonomy and
body positivity
.
The interactive session became invigorating with the presence of
Pushpak Sen
, Indroneel Mukherjee,
Anwesa Chakraborty
and
Meghdut Roy Chowdhury
among others. The event also spread awareness about menstrual education, comprehensive gender and sexuality education, mental health and education and life skills.
