Seems like Gauri Karnik has taken her songstress avatar in Sur '- The Melody of Life to heart. The actor who grabbed eyeballs as a talented singer, Tina, in Sur, inciting jealousy in her Godfather, Vikramaditya (Lucky Ali), is back with a bang, this time around, enacting her onscreen persona in real. The curly-haired beauty is doing playback ' her first ' for Arindam Nandy's Grohon.
The song, a duet, has Gauri singing with Fossils frontman Rupam.
'I'm a trained classical singer but singing for a film is a different experience altogether. I have sung a Rabindrasangeet, Tomar khola hawa, which is picturised on me. Rupam has sung for Samrat Chakrabarti. He helped me a lot during the recording,' says Gauri in a sing-song voice. The actor is so thrilled with her debut as a playback singer that she agrees to not mind more such offers coming her way.
Rupam, on the other hand, is also excited about singing the number, which is a fusion of Tomar khola hawa and a folk number, Agey janle tor bhanga noukaye chortam na. 'After Dwando, this is the second time that I'm lending my voice for Samrat Chakrabarti. There was no musical arrangement, making my job hugely challenging,' the singer says thoughtfully. Rupam also can't stop waxing eloquent about Gauri. 'She has a melodious voice and happens to be very dedicated. A Marathi, she took me by surprise the way she sang the number. We needed to coordinate for the duet and Gauri was really helpful,' he adds.
Here's a gal, who can act her part and sing it as well!
