He was in the news all of last year for his documentary on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, The Argumentative Indian, and is now ready to roll out his next. Professor of economics and filmmaker Suman Ghosh, who lives in Florida, is back in the city for his debut Hindi film titled Aadhaar. It stars Vineet Kumar Singh in the lead, who was last seen in Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz, and Kaushik Sen, who is known for his varied roles in cinema and on stage.

Talking about the film, Suman said, “I have been asked not to divulge much but it is a very interesting story based on the first recipient of the Aadhaar card in Jharkhand. I was happy making Bengali films but this subject is such that you have to make it in Hindi because it is about a man living in Jharkhand.”

The film will be bankrolled by the production house known for critically acclaimed films like Masaan and Newton. Giving us an insight into the film, Suman further added, “Though I live abroad, I am aware of the good work the production house has been doing. They believe in good content and when I narrated the story to them, they were left impressed. They liked the story so much that they immediately gave their nod.”

Suman will start shooting the film in Jharkhand by the end of the year. The unit is in talks with National Awardwinning actor Saurabh Shukla for an important role. “I’ll be in Mumbai for the next two weeks to finalise the leading lad,” he added. While Sirsha Ray will don the cinematographer’s hat, Shantanu Moitra will score for the film. Indranil Ghosh has been roped in as the production designer.

In Bengal, Suman’s Basu Poribar, with Aparna Sen, Soumitra Chatterjee and many other prominent faces, is awaiting release
