Sudiptaa remembers Churni Ganguly’s mother who lost her battle with COVID

Churni Ganguly’s mother Sudipta Banerjee lost her life to COVID-19 on Tuesday afternoon. She was Sudiptaa Chakraborty’s Geography teacher in Alipore Multipurpose Government Girls School. Remembering her, Sudiptaa said, “I still can’t believe that Sudipta di is no more. I pray that God gives strength to Churnidi to cope with this irreplaceable loss. Sudipta di was not only my Geography teacher but also a mentor.I learned a lot from her. She joined our school when I was in class eight. She used to speak impeccable English and her diction was brilliant. There used to be pin-drop silence in her class as each student was awestruck by her personality. She was a very good teacher. Later when I joined acting, I would run into her at film premieres, and she would refer me to as her ‘namesake’. She was extremely affectionate towards me. I still remember how Sudiptadi went to Kurseong with us when we were shooting for Kaushik Ganguly’s film, C/O Sir.”
Sudiptaa, who is trying to help COVID-hit families in her own way, donated blood today. “This is a very small thing as compared to what others are doing in this hour of crisis. I still haven’t got my first dose of vaccination, so I am eligible to donate blood,” said the actress.

Reminiscing about lives lost, Sudiptaa said, “Every day we wake up to the news of someone’s death. It is becoming unbearable. Swapan Barua, who was a production controller in Tollywood, passed away yesterday because of COVID. I knew him since 1995 and Swapanda was an extremely soft-spoken man with a smile on his face at all times. I hope we sail through this tough time.”
