Young, urban middle-class romance and relationships stories are their forte. From their very first film ‘Cross Connection’ (2009) it’s evident.
Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha are master storytellers with fresh and non-preachy approach. And now, the director duo is waiting for their next release ‘
Samsara
’, a relationship story about three friends and what happens when they meet after 20 years.
Fluid stories about Bengali urban middle class have always been their forte. So, what’s ‘Samsara’ all about? What the title actually means? We asked the director duo.
“Samsara is basically a Sanskrit word which comes with Buddhist connotations as well. It refers to the cycle of life — birth, death and reincarnation. We all embark on a journey from the very moment we are conceived in the womb. In this film, we have treated life as a whole, but there is also a thin layer of mystery that’s palpable,” explained Sudeshna.
“How some friends meet after 20 years? What they were in the past? How they are in the present? And how they chart their lives going forward? All these questions will be answered in Samsara,” adds Abhijit, the other half of the pair.
The film stars
Ritwick Chakraborty, Rahul Banerjee, and Indrajit in the lead, and
Kharaj Mukherjee, Tnusree Chakraborty, and
Sudiptaa Chakrabarty
in other important roles.
