After his last directorial ‘Chorabali’ in 2016, Subhrajit Mitra is ready with his next ‘Avijatrik’ based on the concluding part of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s epic novel ‘Aparajito’. This will soon continue the legacy of

the Apu Trilogy

by Satyajit Ray. Subhrajit’s movie follows the wanderlust of Apu rather than the inner journey of Apu and explores the relationship between Apu and his son.

Not only ‘Avijatrik’, being a huge admirer of period films, the talented filmmaker will also be adapting two more classic Bengali literary works. “It can be Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay’s Aranyak or Rabindranath Tagore’s last novel Dui Bon. For Aranyak I have thought of

Ritwik Chakraborty

in the role of the author and for Dui Bon it can be Raima Sen and Darshana Banik with Victor Banerjee in the role of Tagore himself,” revealed Subhrajit during a recent chat with ETimes.

Meanwhile, shot in black and white, ‘Abhijatrik’ has been filmed in and around Benaras, Gorubathan, Taki, Bolpur and Kolkata. The period film stars Arjun Chakraborty as Apu besides Arpita Chatterjee, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Ditipriya, Sohag Sen, Barun Chanda, Tanushree Shankar and Sreelekha Mitra.

Sabyasachi will portray the role of Apu’s globetrotter friend in the film. The cast of ‘Abhijatrik’ has already made everyone buzzing about the film. Arpita Chatterjee will be seen as Leela, Sreelekha Mitra plays Ranu di, Ditipriya Roy as Aparna and Sohag Sen playing Ranu’s elder sister.
