It took him seven long years to write the film, and now it’s in the post-production stage. Subhrajit Mitra’s ‘Avijatrik’, the most-anticipated movies of 2020, has already created quite a lot of buzz and why not? Made in monochrome, this epic film is based on the last chapter of

Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay

’s novel, ‘Aparajito’ and takes off from where Satyajit Ray left Apu in ‘Apur Sansar’.

Starring Arjun Chakraborty as Apu, ‘Avijatrik’ has an ensemble cast including Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Sreelekha Mitra, Arpita Chatterjee, Tanusree Shankar and Dirtipriya among others.

Seasoned actor Sabyasachi will portray the role of Apu’s globetrotter friend. The cast of ‘Abhijatrik’ has already made everyone buzzing about the film. Arpita Chatterjee will be seen as Leela, Sreelekha Mitra plays Ranu di, Ditipriya Roy as Aparna and Sohag Sen playing Ranu’s elder sister. In the film, Apu will relive his childhood through the eyes of his son, visiting Benaras and his village Nischindipur.

The shooting has been done in Benaras, Gorubathan, Taki, Bolpur and Kolkata where Subhrajit has attempted to recreate Kolkata in the year 1939 in black and white.

“There will be shots of Howrah Bridge under construction and we are recreating the yesteryear Howrah Railway Station by referring to the pictures from that year available at the Railway Museum. Besides, Kolkata had cobbled streets then and since it’s on the big screen, everything has to be larger than life. I am also putting the film in a global context and hence the BBC’s footage of Churchill announcing World War 2 will also be there,” says the filmmaker ensuring that ‘Abhijatrik’ deals with the wanderlust of Apu rather than the inner journey of Apu and will portray the relationship between Apu and his son.
