For some, 10 years flies in the blink of an eye and for others, it is a lifetime. Director

Srijit Mukherjee

thinks it is both for him. Starting with Autograph (October 14, 2010), the director has made numerous films since then and when he looks back after a decade, he sees a different world altogether.
According to Srijit, the biggest change the

industry

has seen is the aggressive usage of social media. Before 2010,

film marketing

mostly relied on traditional media, but the game changed when

social media

provided a free platform for publicity and marketing. “In any case, the Bengali film industry can’t boast about its

film budget

. So, when it comes to marketing, the budget is equally small. In this scenario, social media provided a new platform to reach out to people free of cost. It was a game-changer,” he said.
Besides, the

Baishe Srabon

director said the past 10 years has been the decade of storytellers. The industry has moved from stardom to more story-oriented content. “As the situation started changing, the

stars

also started changing. Their actor persona overcame their star persona that changed so many things in the industry,” he said, adding this very phenomenon changed the power equation in the industry.
After 2015, as the number of Puja releases went up, the number of theatres went down, creating revenue-generation issues for filmmakers. The past 10 years has changed Srijit as a human being too. According to him, he has learnt how to survive in an extremely competitive environment and how to deal with negativity. “Countless times, I have been subjected to social media trolling and bullying. The 10-year younger Srijit Mukherjee wouldn’t have been able to deal with it, but his present self can do it with a positive approach,” said the director.
