Several Bengali actors are expected to join Rajkummar Rao in the upcoming Sourav Ganguly biopic, which will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. The film, still untitled, is set to capture the journey of the former Indian cricket captain with Rao playing the lead role. Sanjay Das, a close friend of Ganguly and a key figure in the film’s development, revealed that Ganguly has reviewed the first draft of the script and provided his feedback. The final draft is expected by March, after which a meeting between Ganguly, Rao, production house and the director will take place in Mumbai by the end of March or early April. Following this, casting for pivotal roles, including Dona Ganguly, Sana Ganguly, Nirupa Ganguly, Shehasish Ganguly and Chandi Ganguly, will be finalised based on the timeline of Ganguly’s life depicted in the film. Shooting is set to begin by the end of July, with major portions to be filmed in Kolkata and England. “There’s no doubt that Bengali actors will be part of the project,” said Das. “The film must capture the essence of Bengal.” The production house will announce casting details in due course. With strong speculation that Ganguly might make a cameo appearance, we asked Das about the same. “Yes, he might, but I can’t give out any more information right now until Dada meets Rajkumar Rao and production house ,” responded Das.
It's essential the biopic captures the essence of Bengal. We're yet to finalise the rest of the cast, but there will be Bengali actors contributing to the project –
