Soumyajit happy about his film being screened at US fest

Soumyajit Majumdar’s directorial debut, Homecoming, will be screened as the Festival Central Special at the coveted Washington DC South Asian Film Festival. Moreover, Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s Once upon a time in Kolkata is the closing film at the festival.
Speaking to us, Soumyajit said, “Feeling so proud that both films are from Kolkata. Recently, the film got screened at the London Bengali Film Festival and was the only Bengali feature film from India at the festival. The rest were from Bangladesh.”
Stating that he’s a by-product of the youth arts community of Calcutta, he said, “I’m a ’90s kid who participated in school and college fests and then was part of the Kolkata youth theatre movement as a film student. In my film, I wanted to tell the story of the city’s youth arts community, of the independent artists of today. Homecoming is an emotional and personal film for me because I come from a theatre background myself. This is a film for everyone who loves Kolkata.”
Speaking about his journey, Soumyajit said, “After being part of more than 25 varied and credible feature films, primarily as an actor, I took a break in November 2017 from everything to write my first film. It was mostly made during the pandemic. At present, I am writing a couple of projects — a Hindi feature film and a series.”
