Atanu Ghoshs next project will be based on a complicated father-son relationshipHis last release, Rupkatha Noy, starred Soumitra Chatterjee in a pivotal role and wowed audiences with a heart-stirring tale of love, longing and loneliness. Now, director Atanu Ghosh is set to team up with the veteran actor again for a film on a complicated father-son relationship. The untitled project will have Soumitra playing the father. Atanu has not zeroed in on the actor for the sons role. Ive had initial talks with Soumitra Chatterjee
for the role of Prabuddhababu, the father. Its a character who is slowly losing his mind, which is why Im presently reading books on psychiatry, said Atanu. The son, named Subhro, is brilliant, yet dependent on his father to the point of being obsessed. He cant take up a regular job, since he has to be with his father at all times. So he runs a photocopy shop from one part of the house. A glass window separates the shop from the inside. Subhro has been in a relationship with a girl called Runa for 15 years. But she has moved to New York and comes to Kolkata one last time to sell off her ancestral property, Atanu shared. Then, the day Runa is to leave, a girl comes to Subhros shop. At the same time, Prabuddhababu suddenly turns hysterical and Subhro has to drop everything and go inside. The girl sees the old man and it becomes evident that she knows him from before. She relates to Subhro the story of his fathers dark past, adds the director. What happens next is Atanus trump card and he has sealed his lips on that. But going by his filmography Angshumaner Chhobi, Takhan Teish and, Rupkatha Noy you can expect the unexpected. The film should go on the floors in January even as Atanu plans his next two releases, Abby Sen and Ek Phali Rod.
