Soumitra tests COVID negative, shows marginal improvement

Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee

, who has been under

intensive medical care

, has tested negative for COVID-19 on Wednesday evening. The actor was admitted to a

private hospital

on October 6 after testing positive for the virus. He was shifted to ITU on Friday, after he developed complications and had problem breathing.

Now, the actor’s health has improved a bit, according to a source from the hospital. “Soumitra Chatterjee was tested

COVID

negative on Wednesday night. He is slightly better,” the source said.

On Wednesday evening, his daughter Poulami Bose wrote, “My father is slightly more

stable today

... he is 1% better than yesterday and I'm happy with that ... Some more tests have been conducted today and we'll get the results tomorrow or later ... Thank you all for your prayers and love (sic).”

Soumitra was shooting for Sandip Sarkar’s web series, Next, in the last week of September. After

the Bombay High Court

had allowed all persons above 65 years of age in the entertainment industry to work on a film set, Soumitra shot for Parambrata Chatterjee’s Abhijaan. The actor had told Calcutta Times from the sets, “The virus will be lurking around till there is a vaccine. And that can take months. We can’t stay away from work for that long. After all, it’s a matter of survival.”
