Legendary actor
Soumitra Chatterjee, who tested Covid-19 positive last Tuesday, is still recuperating at the Intensive Therapy Unit of a private hospital under strict monitoring of a team of doctors. On Sunday, his oxygen saturation was irregular and the blood sodium level dropped. According to his medical report, he has been in a state of confused restlessness and recorded a temperature on Sunday.
The doctors have also diagnosed him with Urinary Tract Infection. The 85-year-old is under the treatment for Covid encephalopathy.
His daughter Poulami Bose informed, “ He will undergo an MRI scan today. As per the doctors, my father is still critical. Since it is a Covid-19 case, we could not meet him.”
Soumitra was shifted to ITU on Friday. A team of doctors, including Dr Arindam Kar, and several others, have been constantly monitoring the veteran actor’s health. The veteran actor was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday morning. He was down with fever initially and his test reports confirmed the novel
coronavirus on Monday. Meanwhile, his family members -- wife, son and daughter -- were all tested negative.
Soumitra was last shooting for Sandip Sarkar’s web series, Next, in the last week of September. After the Bombay High Court had allowed all persons above 65 years of age who work in the entertainment industry to work on a film set, Soumitra shot for Parambrata Chatterjee’s Abhijaan. The actor had told Calcutta Times from the sets, “The virus will be lurking around till there is a vaccine. And that can take months. We can’t stay away from work for that long. After all, it’s a matter of survival.”
