In Shyamal Bose’s upcoming ‘Astitva’, Soumitra Chatterjee plays a novelist who decides to write about the harsh truths of the brothels in our country to seek justice for these women who are forced to live in the dark alleys. The narrative sees how the writer eventually gets engulfed in the class struggle between the privileged and the not so privileged.
Beside Soumitra Chatterjee, the cast includes popular actors Supriyo Dutta, Bhaskar Banerjee, Jinia, Debolina Dutta, director Shyamal Bose himself and many others. The film releases on August 10, 2018.
The story and screenplay of ‘Astitva’ are penned by the director. While the music has been composed by Sourav and Sonali Chowdhury, eminent singers Rupankar and Raghab Chatterjee have lent their voices to the songs.
While speaking about his character in the film, Soumitra Chatterjee said, “I think the subject here is a bit different from the typical Bengali cinemas we see these days. These films should be backed more to encourage filmmakers in doing more films like ‘Astitva’. Media should focus more on subjects related to social issues.”
The legendary actor had earlier worked under the direction of Shyamal Bose in ‘Jaal’ which released earlier this year. The veteran actor was seen in a negative role in that social drama.
