Weve shown you exclusive stills of Parambrata Chatterjee and Koel Mallick. We told you Raj Chakraborty plays a south Indian suicide instructor. And heres the latest scoop from Hemlock Society, this summers most awaited Bengali release. Soumitra Chatterjee plays Colonel Samaresh Bagchi a no-nonsense army officer whos looking for a way to end his life. Though its a guest appearance, director
Srijit Mukherji is thrilled to bits to have the
Dadasaheb Phalke winner in his film on a school that trains people in the art of suicide.
For the role of Col Samaresh Bagchi, I couldnt think of any actor other than Soumitrada. The role required someone with tremendous screen presence. There are also some dialogues, which have to be spoken by someone with a towering personality. So, who apart from Soumitrada to play such a heavyweight character? asks Srijit.
Soumitra too is happy working with the young director. I enjoyed working with Srijit. Its a guest appearance and I just shot for a day. Ive done around 400 films of which at least 100 are by young directors! So, its not new for me to work with fresh faces, he says.
So, what is Soumitras role like in the film? He plays a student who has enrolled himself in Hemlock Society to learn ways to commit suicide. I gave him a very strict look. And how was it working with the veteran? Working with him was a dream come true. I still remember Soumitrada called me up to congratulate me after he watched
Autograph. When I approached him this time with the role, he gave his nod, adds Srijit.
The director admits he was nervous while working with Soumitra. All my shoots are like one long
adda. But the day Soumitrada was supposed to shoot, everyone was quiet. Once he started talking, people were at ease. Hes achieved so much in his career, but even now hes hungry for good work. Thats just amazing! In fact, he wasnt too well the day we shot, but Soumitrada did not let that show up on screen.
