Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who was suffering from fever for the last couple of days, was admitted to a private hospital yesterday morning after his test reports confirmed he is COVID-19 positive.
Giving us an update on the octogenarian’s health, his daughter Poulami Bose said, “The only symptom he showed was fever. He was running a low-grade temperature for two days.
We admitted him to a private hospital on Tuesday after his report came positive the day before. However, he is stable now and his temperature is normal.”
Confirming the news, an official from the hospital said, “At 10.30 am, the actor was admitted to the hospital. Yes, he is COVID positive, but we can’t divulge any further details.”
Soumitra’s hospitalisation has put several projects on hold. The actor, who recently completed shooting for Parambrata Chattopadhyay’s Abhijaan, is yet to do the dubbing. “We have planned to complete the dubbing with him in November. Right now we are only praying for his speedy recovery,” Parambrata told us.
Sandip Sarkar, whose upcoming web series stars Soumitra, said, “I had shot with Soumitrada on September 23. The dubbing is not over yet. We were supposed to get in touch with him this week for his dates, but now we have to put things on hold. The project can wait, we just pray that he recovers soon.”
Soumitra’s daughter, a theatre artiste, is also working on a docu series with him. “That’s on hold till he gets absolutely fine. The few projects he’s involved with will have to wait,” said Poulami, who will get her COVID-19 test report today. “My mother and brother will go for the test on Wednesday. Along with them, Samaresh, who stays with my father all the time, will also get tested. Our entire house has been sanitised by the KMC.”
When the iconic actor had resumed shooting in July after the lockdown, he had told CT from the sets of Abhijaan, “The virus will be lurking around till there is a vaccine. And that can take months. We can’t stay away from work for that long. After all, it’s a matter of survival.”
