Veteran director
Tarun Majumdar’s demise on Monday has cast a pall of gloom on the Bengali film fraternity. Actress Soumili Ghosh Biswas, who worked with the director in films like Alo, Desher Mati and Ranga Matir Pothe, among others, told us, “He was the last of the Mohicans to leave us. I personally lost a father figure, a teacher, today. My debut film was Alo, which changed the scenario of Bengali cinema.
I still remember my first shot in Alo was okay and after it, Tarun jethu touched my head and blessed me by saying that I should continue acting.”
The actress went on to add that Majumdar was extremely affectionate as a human being and was a great teacher. “He taught me how to get into a character, how to cry without using glycerin, how important it is to rehearse before the final take and so much more. Nobody would have known that I was a dancer too if he had not cast me in Alo. I had two dance performances in the film and after that, the industry knew that I could dance too. He will forever live in our hearts,” she said.
