Birsa Dasgupta's ‘Crisscross’,
Sohini Sarkar plays a housewife Rupa, who is trapped in a loveless marriage. Her husband abuses her whenever he gets the chance. On the other hand, her in-laws constantly pressurize and humiliate her for not having a child. It’s no doubt a challenging role for any actress to portray a tormented and oppressed woman.
Speaking about tricks of playing challenging roles, Sohini said, “See, it depends on what character I am playing. My character in ‘Bibaho Diaries’ couldn’t have come from any particular method. The spontaneous vibes I had with my co-actor
Ritwick Chakraborty, it helped me a lot. Tunna in ‘Bidaay Byomkesh’ is also spontaneous. In ‘
Durga Sohay
’, I had to follow a method to get into a zone. Whereas, the character in ‘Crisscross’ is so intense that I used to go to shoot without my phone. I had to attend my calls after the shoot is over for the day.”
