In Birsa Dasgupta's ‘Crisscross’, Sohini Sarkar plays a housewife Rupa, who is trapped in a loveless marriage. Her husband abuses her whenever he gets the chance. On the other hand, her in-laws constantly pressurize and humiliate her for not having a child. It’s no doubt a challenging role for any actress to portray a tormented and oppressed woman.

Speaking about tricks of playing challenging roles, Sohini said, “See, it depends on what character I am playing. My character in ‘Bibaho Diaries’ couldn’t have come from any particular method. The spontaneous vibes I had with my co-actor Ritwick Chakraborty, it helped me a lot. Tunna in ‘Bidaay Byomkesh’ is also spontaneous. In ‘

Durga Sohay

’, I had to follow a method to get into a zone. Whereas, the character in ‘Crisscross’ is so intense that I used to go to shoot without my phone. I had to attend my calls after the shoot is over for the day.”

Sohini Sarkar was last seen in Mainak Bhaumik’s ‘Happy Pill’ which also starred Ritwick Chakraborty, Mir and

Parno Mittra

in the lead.
