This year’s Durga Puja is indeed a very special one for Sohini Sarkar. The popular actress of Bengali entertainment industry tied the knot this year with her beau, musician Shovan Ganguly. This is her first Durga Puja post marriage. Although the ‘Athhoi’ actress kept the celebration pretty low-ley keeping the RG Kar rape-murder incident in mind, she took part in Sidur Khela this year and did the Devi Boron ritual as well. Sohini was decked in a simple dark red saree and a few gold jewelleries for her Sidur Khela look. Sohini put on vermillion and was all smiles during the rituals on Bijoya Doshomi. Sohini shared a few photos on social media and wrote, “May good consciousness prevail guided by good sense. May the demon of the mind be defeated ... I pray to the Goddess for everyone’s well-being.”
Sohini Sarkar and Shovan Ganguly married each other on July 15, after dating for exactly a year. The couple got hitched with their family and close friends in attendance. Two days after their legal marriage ceremony, the couple decked up for their Boubhat ceremony. Sohini, the new bride, decked up in a stunning pink saree and gold jewellery.
A month from their marriage, the RG Kar rape-murder took place in Kolkata on August 9. Sohini and Shovan both were on the streets demanding justice for the victim and her family. While protesting for the cause, the couple declared that they would not return to the festival of
Durga Puja. Although Sohini did not remain active in the later movements, the actress announced to not celebrate Durga Puja either. However, Sohini and Shovan celebrated their first Durga Puja as a married couple with their family members and close friends. Sohini took part in the Sidur Khela on Bijoya Doshomi and hosted a homely adda with music and food. Moments from that adda were posted online.
